Understanding the Role of a Temperature Logger

What is a temperature logger used for?

A temperature logger (or *data logger*) is used to automatically measure and record temperature during the transport or storage of sensitive products: such as food products, vaccines, pharmaceutical products, live animals, etc.
It allows for verification and proof that the cold chain has been maintained, by generating a timestamped PDF report which can be used for quality controls or by clients.

How does a temperature logger work?

The logger contains a temperature sensor, internal memory, a battery, and a USB port (or a Bluetooth/4G connection depending on the model).
Simply press the **Start** button to begin recording.
At the end of transport, simply connect it to a computer to automatically generate a PDF report containing the temperature curve, min/max values, and device details.

Reading and Reporting

How to read an Innolog logger?

Connect the logger to a USB port on a computer (PC or Mac). It is automatically recognized as a USB drive, and the PDF report is created automatically without any software.

What is a PDF report?

It is the automatic document generated by the logger at the end of transport.
It contains: the temperature graph, the min/max/average values, any alarms, the device identity, and the accuracy certificate.
This file can be archived, printed, or transmitted to your clients.

In what language is the PDF report generated?

The PDF report is automatically generated in English, the universal language for international transport documents.

What is the reference time used in PDF reports?

The time indicated in the reports is based on GMT+00. An annex table of time zone correspondences will be available to help users interpret the data according to their region.

General Use

Can I use an Innolog for the transport of live animals?

Yes. Innologs are suitable for temperature monitoring during the transport of live animals (chicks, poultry, insects, etc.), by road, air, or sea.

Can Innolog loggers be transported by air?

Yes. Innologs have been tested according to standard DO160G and comply with IATA and UN38.3 regulations regarding lithium batteries.

Can they be used with food or pharmaceutical products?

Yes. They are suitable for dairy products, fruits and vegetables, frozen goods, stem cells, blood plasma, and vaccines.

What is the operating temperature range?

Innolog loggers generally measure from **–30 °C to +70 °C** depending on the model. This range covers the majority of agri-food and pharmaceutical applications.

Is the logger water-resistant?

Yes. Innologs are protected against splashes and condensation. However, they should not be directly immersed in water.

What are the memory capacity and recording frequency?

Each device can store up to **30,000 measurement points**. The recording frequency is factory-set (e.g., every 10 minutes).

Installation and Positioning

Where should the Innolog logger be placed?

There is no strict rule, but place it as close as possible to the product being monitored.
For consistency, maintain a constant position – for example, at the top of a left-hand pallet, second row from the container door.

Is it necessary to declare the presence of a logger in a container?

It is not mandatory, but recommended. Mentioning its presence on transport documents facilitates inspections.

Is it necessary to declare the presence of a logger when shipping by air?

Yes. Airlines often require the declaration of devices containing lithium batteries.
Kelvin Solutions provides the necessary documents (technical data sheets, UN38.3, MSDS) upon request.

Should its location on the pallet be indicated?

Not mandatory, but useful: a visual marker helps locate the logger upon receipt.

What are the shipping pouches supplied with Innologs used for?

They allow the logger to be attached to the pallet and to add logistical information, while protecting it.

Start-up and Recording

Should the logger be stopped before connecting it via USB?

No. The PDF report is generated automatically. Do not unplug it before the file creation is complete.

What to do if the LED does not light up before shipment?

Do not use the device and contact Kelvin Solutions support.

What is the purpose of the “Start Delay”?

The start delay allows for delaying the start of recording, to allow the cargo to reach its target temperature.

Alarms and Indicators

What is a programmed alarm?

It is not an audible alarm. It is a line on the graph indicating an upper or lower limit.
In case of exceedance, the red LED flashes to indicate an anomaly.

What is the purpose of the “Bookmark”?

A short press on Start creates a green point on the graph. It marks an event (boarding, departure, arrival, etc.).

Data and Reports

What is the .CSV file used for?

It contains raw data exportable to Excel for detailed analysis or archiving.

What is the “MKT” indicated on the report?

What is the “MKT” indicated on the report?

Safety and Compliance

Are the devices traceable?

Yes. Each Innolog has a unique serial number engraved and stored in its memory.

Are the batteries safe?

Yes. All safety data sheets (MSDS) are available upon request.

What quality guarantee do you offer?

Innologs are produced under ISO 9001 certification, ensuring rigorous quality control.

Do the loggers have a lifespan?

Yes. Each Innolog logger has a DLU (Date Limit of Use) printed on the back of the device, generally between 1 and 2 years depending on the model.
It is recommended not to use the device after this date to ensure the reliability of measurements and battery performance.

What to do with the logger after use?

Innologs contain a lithium battery and must be disposed of through a WEEE (Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment) channel or returned to Kelvin Solutions for processing.
